What Are Load Balancers?
Load Balancers (or Redundancy) is an avenue in the OpenPath Admin Portal that helps us spread traffic across multiple Paths in the Transaction Logic. We can distribute transactions into different Payment Processors for a balanced load volume. Please note that this is not limited to Connectors. This can be extended to Filters and Routes and to another Load Balancer.
This Walkthrough will guide you in setting up a Load Balancer in the OpenPath Admin Portal.
1. Login to the OpenPath Admin Portal at https://client.openpath.io/ and input your username and password and click Sign In.
2. Navigate to the Left Menu and choose Redundancy.
3. Click on the Plus "+" sign to Add a new Load Balancer. The Add New Redundancy window will popup.
4. On the Settings tab, you can change the name of the New Redundancy. You can choose which Algorith to use type from the dropdown menu.
There are different pre-set Algorithms that you can choose from. You can select one according to your preferences:
Backup - Sends transactions to the first available path in order from top to bottom. If a path become unavailable, then transactions get passed to the next available path.
Round Robin - Sends 1 transaction to each available path in order from top to bottom and then continues to repeat the loop.
Ratio - Sends the specified ratio (number of transactions) to a path before moving to the next path on the list from top to bottom.
Available Daily Limit - Sends the transaction to the path that has the most daily volume available at that moment of that transaction. Each transaction updates the available daily volume in real time.
Available Monthly Limit - Sends the transaction to the path that has the most monthly volume available at that moment of that transaction. Each transaction updates the available monthly volume in real time.
Available Daily Percentage - Sends the transaction to the path that has the most daily volume percentage available at that moment of that transaction. Each transaction updates the available daily volume percentage in real time.
Available Monthly Percentage - Sends the transaction to the path that has the most monthly volume percentage available at that moment of that transaction. Each transaction updates the available monthly volume percentage in real time.
5. The Paths tab will let you choose which Active Paths to connect to. As described in Step 4, the order of each Path is from Top to Bottom. In the screenshot below, Round Robin is the Algorithm and the order of the Connectors will go from Sandbox 1, Sandbox 3 and then Sandbox 4.
Congratulations! You have now created a new Load Balancer.
